Certainly, the pictures tell powerful stories- the ruined railcars, mangled airplanes, burned buildings- and I shudder at the primitive conditions endured by combatants. I read the story of Bubi Hartman, The Blond Knight of Germany: A biography of Erich Hartmann but the aces got special treatment.
